Counterfeit Cards, Player IDs, and Dec. 18th Seminar

A few important announcements for today:

---

First, it has been brought to my attention by the New Dimensions staff that the Dollar Value store in the mall is selling boxes of counterfeit Pokemon cards.  I am currently researching what I am able to do about it, but in the meantime, I just wanted to remind players to always purchase their cards from reputable dealers in sealed packages.  Buying sealed boosters and sealed preconstructed deck boxes are the only way to ensure you aren't getting ripped off.

For more information on identifying counterfeits, Pokegym has a good article that gives an overview on how to identify certain flaws in counterfeits:

Otherwise, the New Dimensions staff and I would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about counterfeit cards.

Second, I have an important note to Parents.

With the end of the Basic season, I have just submitted the list of participating members so that I could order next season's materials, and I noticed something alarming.  Only 8 of our 18 members who participated this season have registered their Play! Pokemon ID on the Pokemon website, specifically our younger members.

Remember! We rely on your registrations to order supplies!
The Pokemon Company sends us supplies based on how many registered players we have.

Our supply shipments are calculated in this way: The number of registered players x 1.5 rounded up to the nearest 10.  This means that the more unregistered players we accrue, the less likely I'll be able to cover their prizes.

I will bring my laptop to assist parents with registering their child's Play! Pokemon ID on the 18th.
At that time, I will need to take those registering to the area close to Panera's and Macy's as those are the only spots offering usable Wifi.

Thank you for your understanding.

Third, I wanted to remind everyone that I will be holding a brief seminar during our Dec. 18th league meeting to prepare players for the upcoming Pokemon City Championship Tournament on Jan. 7 & 8.
Because I know this will be the first structured tournament that many players will be participating in, I will be going over the special rules involved in a tournament setting, as well as deck building ideas and strategies.

If you want us to help you build a deck for the tournament, I highly recommend organizing your cards ASAP.  The better your cards are organized, the easier it will be to build a deck.  If you choose to bring your cards on Dec. 18th, we will have several League Leaders to help you put a deck together.

Otherwise, I know not everyone will be able to make it Dec. 18, so I will send an e-mail out later this week with all information from the seminar, including where and when the tournaments will be.

Remember, there are no league meetings Dec. 25, Jan. 1, or Jan. 8.
On the 8th, I will be in Butler for the aforementioned City Championship tournament.

---

Finally, I wanted to leave players with a few tantalizing tidbits about upcoming card sets:

- The next card set to be released will be "Black and White: Next Destinies" and will feature the return of both Pokemon EX cards and Pokemon species from Generations I through IV.  The new booster packs will feature art of Reshiram, Zekrom, Mewtwo, and Regigigas.  The new preconstructed decks will feature Reshiram and Zekrom.

- Upcoming Japanese promotional materials suggest that a new element will be added to the card game: Dragon-type Pokemon.  If true, this is the first new Pokemon type added to the card game in over a decade!  Because the U.S. is only two sets behind the current Japanese releases, I personally speculate that we will likely see these Dragon-type cards by the end of 2012.

Have a nice week, and if I don't see you on Sunday, have a great Holiday!
